In 2021, students exhibited overall gains in skills, knowledge, and confidence.
Each row represents students self-reported rating of 46 specific skill, knowledge, or confidence levels (e.g. use of statistics, limitations of research methods, working independently) from 1 (dark red) to 5 (dark green). (Left) Distribution of PRE-program responses. (Right) Distribution of POST-program responses.
Each dot represents the average rating per student across multiple measures of skill, knowledge, and confidence.
Students also expressed after program completion that they were more likely to pursue a career in STEM.
In 2021, representatives from the AHA SURE institutions collaborated on a publication investigating the impact of their summer research programs on students skills, understanding, and confidence.
Data from the 2019 and 2020 Summer Research Programs is included in the manuscript.
