- Research Efforts: The majority of the student’s time is expected to be devoted to their personal research project. This project is developed in collaboration with your mentor(s). It is the responsibility of the student to devote 40 hours a week to this program. Their time should be spent approximately 80-90% on lab-related research and 10-20% on CVI-provided programming and other training.
- Mandatory Sessions: Students must participate in the Welcome Session, the Proposal and Milestones Workshop and the Summer Research Symposium. Students may also be asked to present at their lab’s meetings.
Additionally, CVI provides 2-4 additional hours of programming a week designed to support students’ research training and career development. Students are expected to attend all required programming unless they conflict with important lab activities (necessary experiments, lab meetings) - in which case lab activities take priority.
- Event Participation: We expect our students to be present and active participants at our required events. Students should attend all required events and actively contribute to the seminars and workshops by asking questions. This is so that students get the most of participating in the program!
- Be vigilant for COVID-19 symptoms, test when symptomatic, and immediately report positive COVID-19 tests to the lab PI and program administrators.
- Research Abstract: Students will create a short abstract about their research that will be shared with the CVI community and on the CVI Summer Program website.
- Survey Participation: Students will also be asked to complete several surveys regarding their training and the program, including weekly check-in and content feedback surveys. Students should respond to all surveys so that we have an accurate understanding of students’ needs. As part of our reporting requirements, we will also be sending additional annual follow-up surveys.
- Respectful Conduct: We expect our students to always conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner.
- Reach Out: Students should feel free to reach out to their mentors, lab members, or CVI administrative staff if they have any questions or concerns. We all want you to have a fun and successful training experience!
